Speaker DeLeo and the Big Papi Bridge

That was a great and permanent tribute that Governor Charlie Baker and Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo gave to retiring Red Sox great David Ortiz — Big Papi as he known to baseball fans — with the naming of the bridge on Brookline Avenue, the David Ortiz “Big Papi” Bridge.

David Ortiz, arguably one of the greatest clutch hitters in the history of baseball, was so instrumental in the Red Sox winning its first world championship in 86 years — and then adding two more world championships in 2007 and 2013.

We congratulate Big Papi on his truly outstanding career and we look forward to the day five years hence when he is selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

We thank Speaker DeLeo for recognizing Ortiz with such a tremendous honor of naming a bridge after him.
