The town council and the housing authority unanimously approved the reappointment of Mary Lou Heighton as the tenants’ representative to the Winthrop Housing Authority at a joint meeting last week.
“She’s been a great member of the tenants’ board for many years and on the regular housing board as the representative of the tenants’ group,” said housing authority member Peter Gill.
Housing Authority Director Peg Lyons noted that the local tenants’ association is required by the state when a community has a housing authority.
“It’s composed of anybody who lives in a public housing unit, there’s a board that meets and has events monthly, and Mary Lou has been active on this board for at least 15 years that I’m aware of – setting up the events, setting up the meetings, and listening to the tenants,” said Lyons. “She was nominated and voted unanimously by the tenants of the Winthrop Housing Authority for staying on as the board member representative, and I would endorse that, as well.”
Council President Jim Letterie said the council has heard nothing but fantastic things about Heighton, and thanked her for wanting to continue her service on the housing authority.
