Urge DeLeo to show commitment to “The Environmental Bondâ€
Dear Editor:
In your Feb. 1, 2018 article “DeLeo focuses on the next six months of the legislative session†you quote Speaker DeLeo as listing health and public safety as his priorities. Laudable, but I must ask Speaker DeLeo, how can one prioritize health and not address climate change and climate action? How can one prioritize public safety without addressing climate change and climate action? Well, it cannot be done. Climate change is Winthrop’s (as well as our nation’s and the world’s) pressing health and public safety concern. We have witnessed just this winter how vulnerable to flooding we are. And that is just one aspect of the myriad health and safety consequences resulting from climate change. Action must be taken. We are running out of time.  We urge Speaker DeLeo to show his true leadership, which he has evidenced time and again, by embracing the Senate’s omnibus energy bill that was released on Monday. And please know, we applaud Speaker DeLeo’s commitment to “The Environmental Bond†bill.
Thank you
Suzanne Hitchcock-Bryan

THANK YOU
Dear Editor:
The annual WHS Junior Country Fair was held on Nov. 9, 2017. There was a near-capacity turnout, and on behalf of the class of 2019, we’d like to thank the community for coming out to support our class. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the individuals, families, groups and companies below for their contributions which helped make our event such a success. The Country Fair, which is the biggest in our Winthrop High School fundraising careers, will help us to have an amazing prom and Senior week. Once again, on behalf of the Junior class and class officers, our sincerest appreciation. Thank you!

An open letter to the community
from the Winthrop Police Association:
The Winthrop Police Association, along with All Pro Productions, Inc., will be conducting a fundraiser over the next several weeks for a 2018 Coloring Book/Safety Guide Publication.
In order to raise money for the Police Association’s general fund, local business and residents will be called for donations, and will be offered a chance to buy advertising space in the Coloring Book/Safety Guide. In the years past the general fund has supported scholarships and local youth sports programs.
If you have any questions about this fundraiser call the Winthrop Police Association at (617) 846-1212.
Sincerely,
The Winthrop Police Association
