Letters to the Editor

Thank You Winthrop

Dear Editor,

I would like to express my gratitude to the wonderful people of Winthrop. From the signs, the glow sticks, and the overwhelming expression of love and support, I was blown away. This great Winthrop tradition comes to life every year by all of the hard work of the men and women of the Winthrop Fire Department. I would like to thank The Winthrop Fire Department, The Winthrop Police Department, and The Winthrop DPW, for their help with Santa’s ride. That being said, this great event would be nothing without the people of Winthrop. They are the true show. I would like to make a special shout out to Winthrop Firefighters Local 1070 President and Santa’s ride coordinator Kevin Gorman for his dedication to keeping this great tradition evolving every year. In closing I would of course like to thank Mrs. Claus and her elves for their love ad support throughout the years.

Have a very happy and healthy New Year.

Santa

Check Out the WPD Citizens Academy

Dear Editor,

I have been attending the Winthrop Police Department Citizens Academy. It is an eight week course taught by our local officers and the agencies they work with. (I did skip shooting range night.  I hate guns.) This is an excellent way to get to know that our policeman are people, that they work hard, that they are well trained.  Like all of us, they hurt and they care.

Just like any other career, there may be a bad apple, but don’t generalize. We are so lucky to have policeman and women who are our friends and neighbors and sincerely care about us.

I highly recommend this course for every citizen of Winthrop.

It will help you see them as more than a uniform. At the same time, it will cultivate a growing respect for that uniform.

Linda Calla
