Gregory Tzannos

He Led a Rich, Full and Fun Life and Will Be Sorely Missed by Those Who Knew Him

Gregory F. Tzannos, 77, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully after an unexpected event on December 5 surrounded by his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Wagner-Tzannos, daughters Krista Tzannos-Byron of Salem and Kimberly Wagner-Melendez of Winthrop; granddaughters, Elektra Newman and Ysabelle Regis and grandson, Oliver Pocknett; brothers, Nicholas Tzannos, Jr. of Billerica and Mark Tzannos of Saugus; his nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins and friends.

Gregory was born on December 30, 1947 to Mary (Balliro) and Nicholas Tzannos and spent the earlier part of his life in Boston’s North End, Somerville and East Boston. Greg was an avid world traveler and explorer. He and Linda shared a passion for visiting Europe, Germany especially, and always came back with wildly entertaining tales of their many adventures. He was an artist who dabbled in painting, but found true medium in designing and building miniature scale replicas of medieval castles in incredible detail. Greg served briefly in the US Navy, was a historian with a special fascination for war and military strategy, and was equally fascinated by knights as by World War II fighter planes. He was an entrepreneurial spirit.

Greg worked an eclectic array of jobs during his life, started and assisted with multiple businesses and had a refreshingly imaginative approach to money, finance and income. He loved food and he loved to dress sharp. He was known as generous, had a wonderful sense of humor, and went out of his way to make anyone he was talking to feel important or special. When someone needed him, he was always there for encouragement and good advice. He led a rich, full, and fun life, and will be sorely missed by those who knew him. He definitely did it his way.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on his birthday in the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, December 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. Please join the family downstairs in the funeral home’s Cafe for some birthday cake and refreshments from 6 to 8 p.m.

In honor of Greg, please consider a donation to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org and always be kind to animals.
