Mary Gardikas

Her Entire Life Was Devoted to Her Family

Mary (Koritsas) Gardikas, a lifelong resident of Winthrop, passed away on November 21 at the age of 90 after a long struggle with Alzheimers. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

Mary is survived by her cherished husband of 65 years, Peter Gardikas of Winthrop and her four loving children: Michael Gardikas and his wife, Donna of Winthrop, Nancy Farren and her husband, Jim of Cohasset, George Gardikas and his wife, Ann of Peabody and Valerie Sweeney and her husband, Mark of Lynnfield. Mary was also the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren: Marissa Gardikas, Amanda Farren, Nicole Farren, Valerie Coggins and her husband, Zachary, Jimmy Farren, Lauren Farren, Olivia Gardikas, Peter Gardikas, Jackie Gardikas, Catherine Sweeney, Mark Sweeney III and Allison Sweeney. She is survived by her sister, Christine Panopoulos of Maryland, her brother, Charles Koritsas of Florida, and was pre-deceased by her sister, Athena Chechopoulos of Illinois. She also leaves behind many in-laws and cousins that she loved.

Mary was a graduate of Winthrop High School and worked at Limerick Brothers Insurance and Hub Engraving Company. She was a former president of the Winthrop School PTA, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Greek Women’s Philoptochos. Mary played the accordion and performed in Minstrel Shows in the 1940’s, sang with the church choir and retained her lifelong love of music and singing until her last days.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and proud grandmother. Her entire life was devoted to her family. She was the best mom and Yiayia in the world and her legacy of warmth, kindness, and generosity will live on through her twelve beautiful grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, November 27 in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Boston. Services concluded with interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Wanda Rattigan

Retired Boston University Assistant Comptroller

Wanda Rattigan of Winthrop passed away at the Accent Hospice in Milton on November 17, 2023. She was 81 years old.

Born in Bonito, Italy, she was the beloved daughter of the late Antonia (Rossetti) and Giuseppe Sarnacchiaro. A resident of Winthrop since 1992, she worked as an assistant comptroller at Boston University prior to her retirement.

She was the devoted wife of the late Francis B. Rattigan and the dear sister of Giovanna D’Ambrosio of Winthrop, Maria Belmonte and Assunta Pisani both of California and the late Antonio, Salvatore, Silvestro and Marcello Sarnacchiaro. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, November 29 in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop. Committal was private.

Stephen M. Keough, Sr.

Of New Hampshire

Stephen M. Keough, Sr., 85, of Brookline, NH, passed away at his home surrounded by family, early Saturday morning, November 18, 2023.

Born in Plymouth, MA on November 11, 1938, he was a son the late Robert F. and Anna Louise (Pierson) Keough and stepson to the late William Riley. Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia A. (Updegrove) Keough who shared 18 years together. Stephen was widowed after 43 years of marriage from the late Mary Lee (McAteer) Keough, who passed away April 6, 2002. Stephen, the brother of the late Robert F. Keough of East Bridgewater, MA, the late James P. Keough of West Chester, PA, Kathy Carney and her husband William of Salisbury, MA, the late Anna (Riley) Paschal and late husband Walter of Waltham, MA, Michael Riley and wife Breege of Brighton, MA, Helen “Terry” (Riley) Taylor of Newton, MA, Susan Riley Manini of Newton, MA and Laurie Riley of Newton, MA.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Vecchia and her husband Ron, her two daughters Ashley Oliver Asquith and Jaime Oliver McPherson. His son, Stephen M. Keough, Jr. and his wife Donna, and his daughter Nicole Driscoll, and two sons, Stephen M. Keough III and Sean Keough, his son, Michael F. Keough and his two sons Kevin Keough and Michael Keough. His four stepchildren, Terri Lacharite and her husband Steven, Donna Plourde, Tammy Johnson, and Brian Wilson and his wife Dawn.

Together Stephen and Patricia shared twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. He also was survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Stephen was a high school graduate of Boston Trade High School, then began his service with the United States Air Force for 8 years from 1958-1966. He held the rank of Sergeant.

Following his separation from the military, Stephen graduated later on from Newbury Junior College, while employed by Eastern Airlines for 28 years, later held a position at Pitney Bowes until his retirement. He was a devoted family man who brought his children up in Winthrop, MA, later moved to Daytona, FL, then settled in New Hampshire (Goffstown and Brookline). He loved entertaining family and friends, enjoyed dancing, traveling and vacationing, enjoyed working with his hands to build and fixing just about anything. Steve was an avid sports fan who loved the Boston Red Sox, N.E. Patriots and Boston Bruins.

Steve’s precious moments were spending time with family. Truly a man loved by all because of his enthusiasm for life and infectious personality. “If you met him, you loved him”. His biggest joy in life was being with his grandchildren and being fondly known as “Papa Keough”.

Family and friends are invited to the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Saturday, December 2nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Air Force Funeral Honors and interment service will be held privately on December 4th at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
