Lillian F. Hibbard

Her Most Precious Attribute Was Her Family and She Will Be Forever Loved and Celebrated

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, November 17th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere for Lillian F. “Lil” (Oreto) Hibbard, 90, who died peacefully on Saturday, November 11th at Care One Nursing Care in Peabody.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 12 Noon. Interment will be private.

Lillian was born in Boston on January 28, 1933 to her late parents, Joseph M. Oreto and Grace M. (Fabiano) Oreto. She was raised and educated in Revere with her two brothers and her sister.

Lil, as she was affectionally known, worked her entire life. She worked as a waitress at the General Edwards Inn for over 30 years. She also worked for many years after that at Maggio’s restaurant in Revere. In her later years, Lil also worked at the Revere Senior Center assisting some of the seniors and serving them meals.

Lil married her husband, Hugh F. Hibbard on September 13, 1959. She was a wonderful and loving mother who proudly raised her children. She was dedicated to all her family. She cared for her parents when they became ill and maintained a very close relationship with her siblings and their children.

Lil was well known for her “green thumb.” She had grown numerous variations of house plants as well as gardening. Lil previously belonged to a women’s bowling league and made many lifelong friends during that time. Her most precious attribute is her family, she will be forever loved and celebrated.

She was the beloved wife of 63 years to Hugh F. Hibbard of Revere; loving mother of Sandra Marino and her husband, John of Saugus, Daniel P. Hibbard and his wife, Patricia Hames Hibbard of Winthrop and the late William E. “Billy” Byrne, Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; dear sister of the late Joseph S. “Junie” Oreto, Frank P. Oreto and Carol A. Consolo. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Bernard F. Kelly

November 28, 1948 ~ September 17, 2023 

On September 17, 2023, Bernard F. Kelly was called home by his Heavenly Father. Bernard is survived by his wife Maureen Kelly of Winthro. Bernard was loved by his brothers, Daniel and Robert, sisters, Linda and Kathleen and his nieces, nephews, in laws and extended family. Bernard leaves behind many close friends in the Winthrop community and far beyond.

A devout Catholic, Bernard was member of the Michael’s The Archangel Parish in Winthrop; he also served as an altar boy at St. Patrick’s Church in Roxbury. He was a 1968 graduate of Boston College High School and distinguished Latin Scholar. Bernard was fluent in several languages including Russian, Spanish, Latin and Greek. He was awarded a full scholarship to Holy Cross College in Worcester and graduated with High Honors.

Beloved by his longtime customers at The White Hen Pantry, he would often engage customers in conversations ranging from literature to world events.

Bernard was passionate about politics and social change and worked on several major political campaigns, including that of the late Robert F. Kennedy. Bernard was a voracious reader and prolific writer. He was a regular contributor to the Winthrop Sun Transcript where he was a longtime book review critic.

Most importantly, Bernie was a loving husband, brother, uncle and caring friend who will be missed beyond measure. His kind and gentle nature and generosity of spirit was unparalleled. He was a compassionate man, and he endeared himself to all he met.  The family asks only that you remember Bernie warmly and keep him in your hearts.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral mass on Saturday, November 18 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m.
