Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere for Robert E. “Bob†Shiner, Sr. who died in the love and presence of his wife at home in Revere following a long illness. He was 92-years-old. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. followed by interment with Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Bob was born in Malden on June 14, 1931, to his late parents, Charles R., Sr. and Viola C. (Alquist) Shiner. He was one of six children. He was raised and educated in Winthrop and was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1949. Bob enlisted in the United States Airforce on April 4, 1951 during the Korean War. He proudly and bravely served his country and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1955 as a Sergeant.
On January 13, 1968, Bob married his wife, Hazel U. (Bolino) and together they moved to Revere, where they remained. During this time, Bob earned his Draftsman Certificate and worked at E.G. & G Architectural Firm in Salem for over 30 years before retiring as a supervisor.
Bob was always happiest spending his spare time on his boats. He was a longtime member of the Winthrop Yacht Club in Winthrop. He was a Past Commadore and one of the oldest ever to serve. Bob was also an active member at the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078 and the American Legion Post in Winthrop. He was a proud veteran, and was a deep lover of the ocean, being on the water was where he always loved to be.
The beloved husband of 55 years to Hazel U. Shiner of Revere, he was the cherished father of Robert E. Shiner, Jr. of California and the proud grandfather of three grandchildren and six great grandchildren; dear brother of Ruth Asquith of Winthrop, June Francis of California and the late Jean Raymond, Jennie Hess and Charles R. Shiner, Jr. He is also lovingly survived by John Poto and his wife, Linda of Maine and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

William “Bill†Jackson
Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
William “Bill†L. Jackson of Lexington (formerly of Winthrop) passed away on July 30 surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in Syracuse, NY on February 15, 1939 to the late James and Jule Jackson and raised in Quincy. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1956 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1960. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1962.
He worked at Jordan Marsh Company from 1964 to 1972, where he met the love of his life, Rita. He continued his career in retail, working in merchandising and sales until 2010.
After his marriage in 1972, Bill and Rita settled in Winthrop and raised three children. Later in his life, he and Rita relocated to Lexington to be close to their daughters and grandchildren.
Bill was an avid Boston sports fan, devout Catholic with an unwavering faith and he loved a good party. Bill loved family trips with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and loved recounting the beautiful times together in Italy and the Caribbean. One of his favorite places was Cape Cod in the summer, soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean, and enjoying time with friends and family.
Most importantly, Bill was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather, endlessly devoted to his family. He was the proud Papa to all of his grandchildren and spent countless hours playing with them as babies and toddlers, watching them at sports events and dance recitals as they grew older. Bill will be remembered for his genuine, friendly and charismatic demeanor. He had the keen ability to walk into a room knowing no one and walking out with newfound friends.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rita (Tranquillino) Jackson, three children: Maria (John) Andrews and Julie (Matt) Fletcher, all of Lexington, Bill (Sara) Jackson of NYC, NY. He also leaves eight grandchildren whom he adored: Will, Michela and Caroline Fletcher; Gabriella Andrews and Sophie, Alex, Matthew and Theo Jackson. He is also survived by his loving sister, Myra Jackson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Brenda Galofaro and his brother James Jackson.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, August 3 in the Church of St. Brigid, 1981 Massachusetts Ave. in Lexington at 11 a.m. (PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH). Services will conclude with the interment in the Westview Cemetery in Lexington.
