Joseph Falbo

Owned Center Stationary in Winthrop for Over 20 Years

Joseph J. Falbo, 81, of Derry, NH, passed away on Saturday, July 15 at his home. He was born on April 30, 1942 in Carbondale, PA, a son of the late Jerome and Maria (Occhipinti) Falbo. Joseph was an active member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Derry. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #3023 at the church.  He was the owner of Center Stationary in Winthrop for over 20 years, later working as a regional sales manager for Coverall in Stoneham.

Joseph enjoyed volunteering his time at the Food Pantry at St. Thomas Aquinas, helping with the Friday Fish Fry and with Meals on Wheels. He also volunteered for Community Caregivers as a driver for those in need of rides to doctor appointments.  

He is survived by three children: Brian Otten and his wife, Dawn of Poughkeepsie, NY, Jennifer Taris and her husband, Jim of Pelham, NH and Liza Snyder and her husband, Dave of Hampstead, NH; five grandchildren: Brian Otten, Jamie Taris, Victoria Taris, Quinn Snyder and Sarah Snyder; one brother, Jerome Falbo and his wife, Anne of Winthrop, one sister, Anita Kuiper and her husband, George of The Villages, FL, as well as many nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Princess. He was predeceased by one sister, Elaine Scheer. 

Calling hours will be Friday, July 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry.  The burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Norman “Peter” Phillips

Retired Boston Globe Pressman

Norman D. “Peter” Phillips, 88, of Winthrop passed away on July 6. Peter was the beloved husband of the late Christine M. (Wilkinson) Phillips. Born in Somerville, he was the cherished son of the late Richard D. and Dorothy E. (Nowell) Phillips. Prior to his retirement, Peter worked as a newspaper pressman for the Boston Globe. He was a member of the Pressman’s Union, Local 3N, Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078, Winthrop Yacht Club and the Winthrop Golf Club. Peter was a US Navy veteran. He loved Boston sports, golfing, skiing, cooking, reading and socializing with his friends at the Elks. Peter was the devoted father of Tracy Palmer and her husband, Timothy of Columbus, OH and grandchildren: Samantha, Shauna, Tianna and Timothy Jr.), Beth Zygarowski and her husband, Edward of Tyngsboro, and grandchildren: Breanna, Jillian, Neil and Connor, Jeff Phillips and his wife, Corey of Port Charlotte, FL and grandchildren: Brandon, Haley and Hannah; Jennifer Rizzitano and her husband, Tony of Abington and grandchildren: Casey, Anthony, Grace and Charlotte; Benjamin Williams and his wife, Rachele of Winthrop and grandchildren, Autumn and Anna.  Peter was also great-grandfather to Colin, Jude, Ryan, Jordyn, Peter and Oliver. He was the dear brother of Shirley and the late Natalie and Walter. At the request of the family, funeral services for Peter will be private.
