Deborah Rogowicz

Longtime Bartender at East Boston Courtyard Marriot

Deborah M. Rogowicz of Winthrop passed away at home on June 15. She was 70 years old.

Born in Winthrop, the beloved daughter of the late Gwendolyn (Bernard) and Charles Rogowicz, she was a life-long resident of Winthrop and worked as a bartender at the Courtyard Marriot in East Boston for many years.

She was the loving mother of Patrick L. Rogowicz and his fiancé, Maia of Winthrop, dear sister of Charles Rogowicz, Jr. of Winthrop and the late John Rogowicz; loving aunt of Karl Rogowicz and his wife, Jennea, John Rogowicz, Jr., Jessica Rogowicz, Rachel Rogowicz and the late Erica Rogowicz and cherished great aunt of Ava and Alivia.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Garabet Atinizian

He Will Be Remembered for His Unique, Albeit Long, Storytelling, His Love of the Ocean, Sense of Humor and Caring Soul

It is with great sadness and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Garabet (Garo) Atinizian of Winthrop and Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday, June 14.

Garo will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Allison Nunn, sisters, Bercuhi and Janet and brother, Diran along with numerous other family members and friends.

Garo will be remembered for his unique, albeit long, storytelling, his love of the ocean, sense of humor and caring soul.

There will be a private service amongst family members and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family is asking for thoughts and prayers as they grieve.

Jane Kelleher

Retired Nurse Practioner

Jane F. (Ellinwood) Kelleher of Winthrop (Point Shirley) passed away on June 20.

She was 86 years old.

Jane was the beloved wife of John G. Kelleher (The Captain). Born in Boston and raised in Chelmsford, she was the cherished daughter of the late George E. and Evelyn A. (Hill) Ellinwood.

Prior to her retirement, Jane worked as a nurse practitioner providing care for elderly patients throughout Greater Boston and she previously worked in the delivery room of the former Winthrop Hospital where she assisted with the delivery of many Winthrop residents! She was an active participant in the annual 4th of July committee and said there was no better place in the world to celebrate America’s birthday than Point Shirley!

Jane was the devoted mother of Virginia Fontana and her husband, Michael of Malden, Elizabeth Boncore and her husband, Robert of Winthrop, John “Jake” Kelleher and his wife, Renee, Kathleen Fiamma and her husband, Vincent, and David Kelleher and his wife, Liza, all of Newburyport, Kevin Kelleher and his wife, Colleen of North Reading and Mary Vaccaro and her husband, Joseph of Winthrop. She was the adored grandmother of Kati, Julie, Domenic and Andrew Fontana, Jack, Emily Rose and Grace Kelleher, Alex, Amanda and Isa Kelleher, Alyson, Shannon and Dylan Kelleher and Christa and Holly Vaccaro; the dear sister of the late Sandra Carignan and the loving aunt of Steven and Michael Carignan, all of Chelmsford and the cherished sister-in-law of Sister Virginia Kelleher of Framingham.

Visiting hours were held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Monday, June 26 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church (St. Michaels Parish) 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop. Interment was private.

Roberta Kelleher

Of Winthrop

Roberta A. Kelleher of Winthrop passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers on June 20. She was 86 years old.

Born in Winthrop, the beloved daughter of the late Dorothy (Wamness) and Robert Fancher, she was the devoted wife of William D. Kelleher and the loving mother of William Kelleher and his companion, Diane of New Hampshire, Karen McGovern and her husband, Tim, Maureen Richard and Kenneth Kelleher, all of Winthrop; dear sister of Edward Rogers of California and the late William Rogers and Dorothy DeCarlo and cherished grandmother of Shannon, Sarah, Jonathan, Emily and Paige.

A funeral service was held in the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, June 24. Deacon Jim Leo celebrated the service and offered prayers at the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Michael Zarba

Retired Boston Police Patrolman

Michael D. Zarba of Winthrop passed away at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on June 6. He was 90 years old. Born in the North End of Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Damiana (Cali) and Diego Zarba.

A resident of Winthrop for over 60 years he served as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the Madonna Della Casa Society, the AMVETS and the Boston Police Patrolman’s Association.

He was the devoted husband of Adele M. (Hudson) and the loving father of Deborah McDermott and her husband, Tom of Canon, New Hampshire, Carolyn Cohen and her husband, Gregg of Swampscott, Michelle Pettee and her husband, Wayne and Michael Zarba, all of Winthrop and the late Pamela Gaylor; dear brother of Josephine Toscano and her late husband, Frank of the North End, Salvatore Zarba and his wife, Pat of Rowley and the late Joseph Zarba and his wife, Elaine; cherished grandfather of Ryan, Josh, Angela, Olivia, Tyler, Max, Isabella and Zachary and great grandfather of Desmond, Nola and Rylan.

The funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, June 10 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop. Services concluded with military honors in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
