Letters to the Editor

Vote for Capobianco

Dear Editor,

I am humbly asking you to vote for my longtime friend and colleague Valentino Capobianco for re-election to the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee in the First Suffolk & Middlesex District. Valentino will appear on the Presidential Primary Ballot on Tuesday March 3.

I have had the honor and privilege in working with Valentino since he decided to volunteer in his community at the age of 15. Professionally we serve together on the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee together representing the First Suffolk and Middlesex District. In 2017, as a member Democratic Party Platform Committee Valentino successfully advocated for language requiring Presidential Candidates to release their tax returns.

As a member of the Winthrop School Committee, he led the effort to improve full free day kindergarten to help reduce the financial burden on working families. Capobianco supported Question 3 in 2018 and in doing so, he fought for LGBTQ students, and earlier this year the Winthrop School Committee passed a resolution in favor of the “Student Opportunity Act” which changed the Chapter 70 funding formula. He diligently worked within the town budget to approve two Teachers contracts with salary increases, without layoffs and without a proposition 2.5-percent Override.

Valentino is a kindhearted hard working young man that loves public service. He is a leader that we can trust and it is my honor to ask you to join me in voting for Valentino Capobianco for Democratic State Committee on Tuesday March 3.

Sincerely,

Denise LoConte

Democratic State Committee Woman

Pop-up Bingo

Dear Editor,

My family is just in awe of everyone that has rallied around us during these darkest days. I cannot express how much it has helped us. The support has been truly amazing. The Pop-Up Bingo night at Blackstrap was perfect. To see everyone there was so incredibly warming, thank you to all for coming and paying tribute to an amazing woman. Aimee was so full of life, love and kindness; she would have been amazed last night. I know she was there with us smiling and laughing.

What can I say about Kate Economides? She is absolutely amazing, it’s as simple as that. She is so generous, caring and thoughtful, she is truly an amazing woman and we are indebted to her. The night was filled with smiles and laughter. We haven’t had much to smile or laugh about lately, but it sure felt great to laugh and smile with all of you last night. Thank you, Kate, from the bottom of our hearts.

I also want to thank Wendy Millar-Page, Linda Bosse and Colby Bosse for volunteering their time to help coordinate this beautiful and fun filled night. I also would to thank the whole staff at Blackstrap for doing such a wonderful job.

To our closest friends, you all know who you are. You have been our strength; without you we would be lost. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives. I can’t imagine going through this without you all. We love you so much.

Last but certainly not least, to all who donated the raffle prizes and those who participated in this wonderful event, thank you so much for your generosity. It was a night to remember.

We are devastated as a family and things have changed forever, but realizing how important Aimee was to all of you has made this chaos a little easier. We can never express how thankful we are, it is truly amazing.

Thank you so much

Love,

Tim, Josh, Lauren and Jess Boudrow

Vote for Warren

Dear Editor,

I just read Carol Walker’s letter to the editor of Feb. 13 supporting Bernie Sanders for U.S. President.  In that letter, she offered information that was inaccurate on two counts.

First of all, Bernie Sanders AND Sen. Warren do NOT take corporate OR PAC money for their campaigns..  Mrs. Walker said that Elizabeth Warren used PAC money for her campaign.  Elizabeth Warren relies only on grassroots donors to fund her campaign.

Secondly, Mrs. Walker indicated that Bernie Sanders co-wrote the Green New Deal environmental legislation.  Indeed, Senator Sanders was a co-sponsor of this bill. However, it was Sen. Ed Markey who co-wrote the Green New Deal legislation with Representative Ocasio-Cortez. In fact, Sen. Elizabeth Warren was an original co-sponsor of The Green New Deal.

In an effort to enhance this key environmental effort, Sen. Warren added a Blue New Deal to also protect our oceans and inland waterways.

To learn more about Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s positions on all issues, go to www.elizabethwarren.com. One can also “Take Action” on that same site to help further Warren’s campaign with calls and contributions.
