Presented annually by Webster First Federal Credit Union, the Halloween Haunt is set for Halloween afternoon, Oct. 31, starting at 4 p.m. ending approximately at 6 p.m.
“The trick-or-treat bags are here, the candy is ready, and I expect a fun time to be had by all,†says event organizer, Tom Hankard, assistant vice president of Webster First Federal Credit Union. As in past years, all attendees are asked to line up in between Webster First and CVS on Woodside Avenue, collect their trick-or-treat bags, and scurry around Winthrop Center collecting candy and other treats.
According to Hankard, all Winthrop businesses and business owners are invited to participate, whether or not they are located in Winthrop Center. “This isn’t a Winthrop Center event, this is a Winthrop event that enables kids and families to have fun and gets businesses in front of potential customers that wouldn’t have the opportunity otherwise – plus is so much fun,†says Hankard.
Hankard continued, “Where else can you find nearly 2,000 kids and their parents, being able to enjoy Halloween in a safe, contained environment? Winthrop businesses and families opening up their doors to everyone is one of the unique things that make Winthrop the great place it is.â€
The Belle Isle Rotary Club, serving East Boston, Revere, and Winthrop, will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Winthrop Veterans Food Pantry. Haunters are asked to donate at least one item at the Webster First branch at 15 Woodside Avenue.
DJ Chris Summa will continue the tradition of playing spooky sounds to set the mood and Cathy Stacy will also be live with her traditional African drum playing. Hankard also noted the Winthrop Police, Winthrop Fire, and the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce are always instrumental in making this event a success.
“We never know how many people to expect anymore,†noted Hankard. “As we welcome one and all to the Haunt, It is all hands on deck, which adds to the excitement!â€
