With Change, Public Discourse & Communication Are Key

Dear Editor:

I’d like to commend the Town of Winthrop (including the Town Council, Town Manager’s office and department heads) for having the courage to pursue new and innovative ideas for sparking positive and much needed change in our Center. Closing Hagman Road to vehicular traffic may not be the best solution, but it sure has sparked a great public dialogue and hopefully inspired a lot of people to open their imaginations to what is possible when we experiment with our public spaces to change the status quo. Urban planners like me live for this stuff! At this point, open communications between the Town and its residents should be a top priority, as should respectful dialogue between individuals, and I believe that under the leadership of our new Interim Town Manager, Chief Delehanty, it will be. Please be sure to come to the free Downtown Parking Workshop on Thursday, sept. 14 at 5:30 pm at the EB Newton School to learn from an international transportation expert about how we can effectively manage parking in the Center in ways that accommodate demand while supporting the economic development our community needs to thrive.

McKenna did a great job

Dear Editor:

During my tenure as Town Council President, I had the opportunity to witness, firsthand, the tremendous accomplishments of town manager and his team.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize and to thank Town Manager McKenna for his vision and leadership and his team for their efforts and accomplishments in resulting in a “transformational time for Winthrop.

Please see attached Op-Ed on this page from Jim McKenna.

Again, many thanks to you Jim for your leadership and direction.

Best wishes to you and your family as you move on to the next chapter of your professional endeavors
