Irene M. (Trainor) DiGiovanni of Winthrop passed away on May 29. She was 80 years old.
Irene was Past President of the Winthrop Emblem Club #15 and a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078. Prior to her retirement, Irene was the Function Manager for the Winthrop Lodge of Elks for 20 years.
The beloved wife of Joseph R. DiGiovanni, she was born in Boston, the cherished daughter of the late Owen and Dorothy (Irwin) Trainor. She was the devoted mother of Owen J. Gillis of Winthrop, James M. Gillis and his wife, Doreen of Winthrop,
Virginia M. Gillis and her partner, Thomas Soucy of N. Chelmsford, Robert F. Gillis, John P. Gillis and his wife, Mary, Kathleen M. Gillis and her partner,
Justin Magee, Mary F. Gillis and her partner Robert McCarthy, all of Winthrop, Kelly A. Gentzler and her husband, Scott of Revere, Donna Jewison and her husband, Paul of Minnesota, Stacey Cibien and her husband, John of Shrewsbury and Joseph DiGiovanni and his wife Aimee of Illinois. She was he adored grandmother of 20 and great-grandmother of two; dear sister of the late William and Robert Trainor; sister-in-law of Beverly Trainor of Maryland and Theresa Trainor of New Hampshire and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, June 2 at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Cremation to follow will be private. Beverly Salhaney

Beverly R. (Hammerman) Salhaney entered eternal rest on May 26. She was 72 years old.
She was the devoted mother of Jay P. Salhaney and his wife, Elaine of Holliston; adored grandmother of Adam and Eric Salhaney and the loving companion of the late Robert H. Kelly. Born in Winthrop, she was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Beal) Hammerman; dear sister of Elliot Hammerman of New Bern, NC and Arlene
Hammerman of Boston; cherished aunt of Michael Hammerman, Shari Hammerman and the late Ronald Hammerman. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Graveside Service was held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett on Wednesday, May 31. Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W.

Donald Swansburg, Jr.
Boston Bruins fan and 50-year season ticket holder; owned Beacon Sales Roofing Supplies
Donald E. Swansburg, Jr. of Winthrop passed away on May 26. He was 79 years old.
Donald was a US Marine Corps veteran, a dedicated Boston Bruins Fan having been a season ticket holder for 50 years and the owner of Beacon Sales Roofing Supplies.
He was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Merchant) Swansburg. Born in Winthrop, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Annette E. (Boutin) Swansburg, Sr.; devoted father of Donald E. Swansburg III and his wife, Gina of Tewksbury, Michael J. Swansburg and Linda Sabatula of Andover, Mary Ellen DeFuria and her husband, John of Wilmington, and Kathleen A. Swansburg of Winthrop; adored grandfather of Donald IV and Kevin Swansburg and Ashley and Steven DeFuria. He was the dear brother of George F. Swansburg and his Wife, Diane of Hales Location, NH, Edward P. Swansburg and his wife, Esther of Lynnfield and John R. Swansburg and his wife, Cheryl of Prides Crossing. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop today, Thursday, June 1 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Please go directly to church. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). At the request of the family, there are no visiting hours.

Brian Edward King
Son of former Governor Edward J. King
Brian Edward King, a long-time resident of Lynn and part-time resident of Naples, FL, passed away in his Lynn home after a brief illness on Monday, May 29 at the age of 63. Born on September 25, 1953, he was the son of the late Former Governor Edward J. King and Josephine T. (Hurley) King.
Brian was raised in Winthrop and was a graduate of Dom Savio High School in East Boston. In June of 1975, Brian married Kathleen M. (Leary) King in Winthrop and the couple soon settled in Lynn to begin their lives together. Brian was an avid reader and loved to get lost in books. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and he also traveled throughout the United States, he recently completed his mission of visiting all 50 states. Brian was a passionate referee for: EMOSA (Soccer), ANEFO (Football), NSSUA (Softball), BFHUA (Field Hockey), FSHAA (Soccer in Florida) and EMWLUA (Lacrosse).
In addition to his wife, Kathleen, Brian leaves his cherished daughters: Lauren Davis and her husband, Kevin of Andover and Meredith King of Watertown, his grandsons: Owen and Andrew Davis of Andover, his loving brother, Timothy King and his wife, Mary of Middleton, his nieces and nephews: Ryan Leary and Kathryn Leary, both of Winthrop, Timothy King, Jr., Edward King, and Elisabeth King, all of Middleton and his mother-in-law, Ellen Leary of Winthrop, as well as many cousins, friends and family. Brian also leaves his beloved canine companions, Lucy and Penny and the late Scarlett.
His Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn on Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn at 11 a.m. Interment services will be held privately. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to either: or the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave. Salem, MA 01970 or Beacon Hospice, an Amedisys Co. 100 Cummings Ctr.
