Mary Williams

Retired nursing home aide

Mary L. (Bucci) Williams of Winthrop passed away on December 13. She was 93 years old.

Prior to her retirement, Mary worked as an aide in the former Governor Winthrop Nursing Home in Winthrop.

She was born in Boston, the cherished daughter of the late James and Anna (Grant) Bucci and was the devoted mother of Meryle Foy and James Williams and his wife, Nancy (DiMuro), all of Winthrop, Nancy Williams-Anderson and her husband, John of Lynnfield, Earl Williams of Falmouth and the late Thomas Williams and Wendy Williams; dear sister of the late Frances Gilleo, Vincent Bucci, and Charles Grant and Grace Nugent. She was the adored grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 23. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and her dear friend Delbrook Binns of Winthrop.

A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Saturday, December 19 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Please go directly to the church. Joan Hamel

Devoted mother and animal lover,

long time State Street Bank clerk

Joan Hamel of Trenton Street, East Boston passed away at home on December 10. She was 81 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved daughter of the late Sylvia (Maffei) and Joseph Martorano, she was a 1952 graduate of Winthrop High School and went on to work as a clerk for State Street Bank for many years. Thoughout her life, she was very fond of animals, but more importantly, she was a devoted and loving mother to her four children.

She was the loving mother of Thomas Hamel of San Diego, California, Maria “Mia” Hamel of Tampa, Florida, Joyce Hamel of Silver Spring, Maryland and Robert Hamel of Mansfield; the dear sister of Joseph Martorano of Tewksbury and Michael Martorano of Silverthorn, Colorado. She was also the cherished grandmother of Kristina, Cassandra, Robert and Jayme.

A memorial service was held at the Central Assembly of God Church, East Boston on Wednesday, December 16. Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League, Boston at www.arlboston.org/donate/
