The Winthrop Commission on Disabilities (WCOD) has officially announced an upcoming free community workshop titled “Staying in Your Home” to support local residents. This informative event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Winthrop Senior Center located on Harvard Street.
The session is specifically designed to help older adults and people with disabilities understand their options for remaining independent within the community.
Expert speakers from the Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) will lead the presentation. The panel includes Community Living Program Manager Julie Tamayo, Disability Peer Advocate Daniela Depina, and Community Living Advocate Dan Harris. Together, they will provide guidance on how to access necessary supports and discuss ways to avoid unnecessary admission into nursing homes or other care facilities.
The organizers emphasize that being independent does not mean doing it alone, and the BCIL is dedicated to connecting individuals with resources that allow them to live on their own terms. This event is open to people with disabilities, seniors, family members, and caregivers alike.
Attendees can expect to leave the session with clear information and practical next steps for managing changing health or life circumstances. While the workshop is free to attend, interested participants are encouraged to RSVP by calling the Winthrop Senior Center at 617-846-8538.
