Senior Center Remembers Nancy Williams

When beloved resident, Nancy Williams, passed away on July 26, 2017, the town of Winthrop was overcome with sadness. The longtime Director of the Bob DeLeo Senior Center had impacted countless lives and several of those memories resurfaced in the presence of her family and friends on Tuesday morning, as everyone gathered together to unveil a plaque in her dedication.

“Nancy always took the time to make people feel comfortable,” said Kathy Dixon, current director of the center. “She was a great leader, a great friend, and she will be greatly missed.”

Speaker of the House, Bob DeLeo reminisced about his longtime friendship with Williams.

“There is not a more fitting tribute to Nancy than at the Senior Center, because this is the place she loved. She has elevated the light of senior citizens in this town and I trusted her opinion emphatically. It was never about her and it was always about helping others. She made Winthrop a better place to work, live, and raise a family and her loss has created a void in our community. I am thrilled we now have a plaque so everyone who walks through the center will be able to put a face to the name that they have heard so much about.”

Family and friends did the honor of unveiling the plaque, which is hung in the hallway leading to the event space at the center. Williams had been involved in the senior center community as its director for 25 years.
