TreeWinthrop (a/k/a as Winthrop Loves Trees & GROW) will lead an effort at Crest Ave Park to clean up its garden beds, create a pollinator garden, seek official Monarch Waystation status, and plant three serviceberry trees. TreeWinthrop.org received permission from Winthrop’s Department of Public Works director and consulted with the tree warden about the project to ensure the plantings support the town’s broader tree-care goals. The group will establish a healthy, sustainable garden that can thrive for years to come.
In addition, TreeWinthrop.org is building on years of community greening work with a new project at the median at the corner of Revere Street and Crest Avenue. The organization has adopted the site, and planted native plants such as bee balm, black eyed susans, golden wort, blue asters, purple phlox, and common milkweed.
Community members are invited to volunteer on October 10 at 9:30 a.m., meeting at Crest Avenue Park. Volunteers will help clean and prepare the garden beds, establish pollinator-friendly plantings, and clear space to plant the three serviceberry trees in the spring. Participants are encouraged to bring gardening gloves and join neighbors in creating a healthier, more welcoming green space.
TreeWinthrop’s past initiatives include creating Winthrop’s Adopt-A-Tree program and playing an instrumental role in the community tree inventory and Winthrop’s tree ordinance. The organization has also planted trees at the Landing, the Winthrop Public Library, and Ingleside Park—projects that have expanded the town’s canopy and strengthened community stewardship of public green spaces.
TreeWinthrop.org is seeking donations to purchase trees, pollinator plants, and other materials needed to complete the project. Contributions can be made through TreeWinthrop.org. For volunteer information, call 617-721-4162.
“This project is an opportunity for residents to work together, support pollinators, and bring lasting beauty and environmental value to a highly visible corner of Winthrop,” TreeWinthrop.org said. “Every volunteer hour and every donation will help move the project forward.”
