Attorney and former president of New England Broadcasting
Ronald H. Wayland of Winthrop, born December 12, 1939 to Josephine (Ahearn) and William Wayland, grew up in Dorchester and attended Mission High School. He went on to study at Boston College and earned his law degree from Suffolk University. He dedicated many years to public defense, advocating for the rights of the underserved. Later, he joined New England Broadcasting, where he ascended to the role of president. He was a former member of Cottage Park Yacht Club and a social member of the Winthrop Yacht Club.
He was the devoted husband of Doreen M. (Shannon) and the loving father of Edward Wayland of Andover, Christian Wayland and his wife, Ruthie of Boxford and Beth Bailey and her husband, Tom of Winthrop; dear brother of Douglas Wayland (his twin) of Denver, Colorado, Gregory Wayland of Florida and the late William Wayland and Anne O’Hara and cherished grandfather of Emerson, David, Gabbi, Madeline, Teddy, Camille, Charlotte, Nicholas, Gigi and the late Thomas.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the St. John the Evangelist Church (St. Michael’s Parish) 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon followed by a funeral mass in the Church at 12 noon. Services will conclude with the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
