William Phillip
“Grizz” McGinness

Boston Children’s Hospital Supervisor

 William Phillip McGinness, affectionately known as Grizz, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Winthrop on September 13, 2024. He was 64 years old. Born in Malden, he was the beloved son of the late Catherine M. (Mortimer) McGinness and the late Walter J. McGinness.

Grizz was a life-long resident of Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1979 and going on to become a supervisor at Children’s Hospital in Boston where he leaves behind many friends and colleagues. He was also a member of several local social organizations, an avid golfer and an overall sports enthusiast. Grizz enjoyed attending many of these events with his great friend, Fred “Butch” Gass.

Grizz leaves behind his dear sister, JoAnn M. Marshall and her husband, Dennis, his brother, Walter S. McGinness and his wife, Lois and his brother, Edward J. McGinness and his husband, Dane. He is also survived by his additional loving family members: Ellen, Bobby, Robert Joseph (R.J.), Colleen, Matt, Anna, Molly, Evie, Katie and many cherished friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop to share their memories of Grizz today, Thursday, September 26th from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday, September 27th from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. followed by interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Antoinette “Dolly” Passaro

“Nana Dolly” has left a piece of herself in every life she touched

 Antoinette “Dolly” Passaro, a longtime resident of Winthrop, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024 at the age of 98.  After being born in New York on May 9, 1926, she married the late Nat C. Passaro and they moved to Winthrop almost 70 years ago.

She was sister to Vita Salomon and the late Frances Baccellieri, both of New York and the loving mother of Philip and Dominic, who predeceased her, and Richard who currently resides in Wallingford, CT with his wife, Robbin. Dolly is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Angela Passaro and Sue Passaro.  She was blessed with six grandchildren: Gina and her fiancé, Michael Bailey, Matthew and his wife, Valerie, Nicholas, Richard, Daniel and Rachel, and four great grandchildren: Francesca, Lucia, Donato and Dominic.  She also enjoyed her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dolly loved spending time with, and cooking for gatherings of family and friends. Many of her favorite memories were of holidays when all could get together around the table creating wonderful meals and memories.  During her life she also enjoyed travelling, the beach, occasional trips to the casino, and her amazing ocean view.

“Nana Dolly” was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed, but she has left a piece of herself within each life that she has touched.

Many thanks to her caregivers during recent years, especially those at The Parc at Harbor View Senior Living and the Leonard Florence Center for Living.  And she greatly appreciated all her family and friends who kept her in their thoughts, or were able to send a card, call, or visit.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, September 28th from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
