Public Health Director Meredith Hurley and the Town of Winthrop are pleased to announce the distribution of more than two thousand rapid COVID-19 tests to members of the community this past week. Winthrop is one of 102 communities in Massachusetts to receive iHealth Labs OTC at-home rapid antigen test kits through a new state program, which residents can use to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Winthrop received 2,520 test kits, which each contain two tests, on Dec. 15. The Winthrop Department of Public Health and Clinical Services has distributed 2,000 of the test kits so far by prioritizing residents of public housing and elderly housing, daycares, those receiving food assistance, and those without transportation, and plan to distribute more tests in other needed areas. Residents are encouraged to get their booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine if they are eligible. Vaccines and boosters are free.
