Judith O’Brien

Of Winthrop

Judith A. (O’Connor) O’Brien, of Winthrop, Hudson, NH, and Acton, ME passed away on March 2 at the age of 81.

Born in Melrose, she was th beloved daughter of the late Francis P. and Julia (Sheerin) O’Connor. A long time resident of Winthrop, she was the devoted wife of James P. O’Brien and the loving mother of James J. O’Brien of Hooksett, NH, John O’Brien and his wife, Sandra of Wilmington and Joseph O’Brien of Winthrop; adored grandmother of Jim O’Brien and his wife, Bridget and Joe, John and Christopher O’Brien. She was the dear sister of eight siblings, who have all predeceased her. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jo-Anne Vasco

Proprietor of Jo-Anne’s Barber Shop in Winthrop

Jo-Anne Vasco of East Boston passed away peacefully on March 1.

Jo-Anne was the proprietor and beautician at Jo-Anne’s Barber Shop in Winthrop and a member of the Winthrop Elks.

The devoted mother of Robin St. Pierre and her husband, Donald of Eliot, Maine, she was the dear sister of Lillian Demopoulos of Wells, Maine and the late William Vasco; cherished grandmother of April, Donald and Dylan St. Pierre and Stefanie Demarco; beloved great-grandmother of Adrianna and she is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, (Orient Heights) East Boston. Committal services were at Saint Demetrios Hellenic Orthodox Cemetery, Biddeford, Maine.  In honoring Jo-Anne and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Bradley Street, Saco, Maine 04072. Ronald Munroe

Retired Boston Police Officer

Ronald A. Munroe of Lynn passed away at the Salem Hospital on March 2. He was 79 years old.

Ronald was born in East Boston to Joseph and Helen Munroe on December 17, 1938. He worked as a police officer for the City of Boston for over 20 years and received numerous honors, awards and achievements for his service. He also served in the Navy Reserve.

He is survived by his children: Ronald A. Munroe, Jr. and Tracy Fast; his sisters, Mary C. Kielbasinski and Madeline Pergola and by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Munroe, his brothers: Hugh, William and Paul; his sister, Patricia and by his wives, Barbara and Linda and his beloved daughter, Julie Ann.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, March 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m. Committal will be private. Bella Smith

Former Winthrop resident

Bella (Perry) Smith of Saugus, formerly of Winthrop, died on February 22. She was 83 years old.

A graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1951, she was the devoted wife of Robert G. Smith; loving mother of Dina Flockhart and Sharon Smith, grandmother of Eleah and Olivia Flockhart; dear sister of Esther Babner, and the late Doris Kittenplan, Henry Perry and Leonard Perry.

A remembrance and celebration of her life will be held on March 19 in Middleton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the America Heart Association.
