Winthrop Girls Hold Off St. Mary’s in 47-44 Semi-Final Win Wednesday Night at Essex Tech

The Winthrop Girls Basketball team extended their run in the playoffs Tuesday night at Essex Tech by besting rival St. Mary’s 47-44. The girls were in control of the game and fought off a fierce comeback by St. Mary’s to take the victory. They will play this Saturday at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell versus Bishop Fenwick. Game time is 10:30 a.m.

NOT SO FAST: The Winthrop bench erupts as the Vikings topped rival St. Mary’s in the Division 3 North Semi-finals Wednesday night. Their celebration was a bit premature, as game officials restored six-tenths of a second to the clock—and soon thereafter, the celebration was for real.
