Winthrop’s Night for Newtown on Sunday

“Winthrop’s Night for Newtown” will be this Sunday, December 23rd at the Winthrop Yacht Club from 4PM-7PM.  This event is an opportunity for the people of Winthrop to come together in a showing of support and community to raise funds to benefit those impacted by the recent tragedy in Newtown, CT.   This family friendly event will include an appearance by Santa (bring your cameras!) and there will be activities for younger kids including face painting and a screening of the “The Polar Express” with hot chocolate and cookies. For the adults, Christmas music and live caroling will be provided by Music Matters.  Tickets are $20 for adults and all children under 18 years old get in for free, however must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Pizza, hot chocolate, coffee, cookies and candy canes will be included with admission.  Tickets will be available at the door and will be available throughout the week at Christopher’s Flowers, The Law Office of Chris Tsiotis and Winthrop School of Performing Arts.  Numerous Winthrop businesses have been generous enough to donate gifts to raffle off and there will be a 50/50 Split the Pot as well.  The big prize of the evening will be The High Rollers 100/$100 raffle.  Only 100 tickets, priced at $100 apiece, will be sold for the chance to win a grand prize of $2500.  Tickets can be obtained by emailing board@vikingpride.org.  As well, “Canning with Mike” will be taking place from 10AM-Noon at the major intersections of town and down Winthrop Center where Michael Eruzione and members of other local organizations will be accepting donations towards the people of Newtown, CT.

This event is a collective effort of the following local organizations: Viking Pride Foundation, The 11 Foundation, Winthrop Charities and the Eruzione Family, Neil Shapiro 5K Committee, Winthrop Yacht Club, For Kids Only Afterschool Programs, Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, Winthrop Public Schools, WHS Student Council and Music Matters.

Proceeds from this event will go directly to Newtown, CT.  Superintendent John Macero will be reaching out to the Superintendent in Newtown to see exactly what is needed to best make a difference and improve the quality of life for the children of that community. Winthropites should have confidence that the Superintendent and Chairmen of our trusted Winthrop charities consisting of the Viking Pride Foundation, Winthrop Charities and The 11 Foundation will ensure that the money is put to its best possible use.
