Summer Program is Ready for Take-off

Parks and Recreation Director Sean Driscoll and his staff, with the help of a grant from Massport, are once again preparing to launch their successful summer park program at Ingleside Park, beginning June 27 and running for seven weeks.

“The price to enroll children is $249 per child, if they are registered prior to June 22,” explained Driscoll. “Given that the program runs five days per week for seven weeks, that is still less than $10 per day, so we think we have a very fair price again this year.”
Late enrollees will be charged $279 per child.

The program meets indoors at the Parks and Recreation activity center on rainy days and offers youth the opportunity to play basketball, street hockey, tennis, special event days, arts and crafts at Ingleside Park and a variety of other fun activities.

“The Massport grant will allow us to hire 46 youth workers to work in the Parks program as counselors, as well as office help at Town Hall and the library, and on public works crews.

In addition to the summer park program, Parks and Recreation is also offering a variety of summertime day trips to locations including Canobie Lake, Water Country, Sky Zone and Circus Smirkus and sports activities for kids including soccer, golf and cheerleading clinics and a new summer youth lacrosse league.

All of the sports clinics and day trips have an additional cost associated with them.

Driscoll also said that the department was planning to bring back the summertime family concerts at Ingleside Park, but because of some recent changes to the department’s budget, the concert series and the planned sand Castle Day may be in jeopardy.
