The great expanded gaming debate will begin on October 29 when a House Committee takes up the issue.
The Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies will hold a hearing at the State House on Thursday, October 29, to discuss expanded gaming – including casinos – coming to the state and perhaps to Suffolk Downs.
Speaker of the House Bob DeLeo said the hearing “will provide additional information to assist me in my decision making.â€
It is expected that a bill proposing some sort of expanded gaming could be introduced as early as January.
Many insiders in the gambling debate had postulated that something would be done quickly this fall, as the state was in dire need of revenues. However, recently Speaker DeLeo moved back the timetable to the first of 2010 in order to consider the issue more entirely.
