Braves capture ‘A’ Division Championship
By Joseph Dalton
The Braves, led by head coach Anthony Williams, and assisted by coaches Chris Bauer, Rich Vivolo, and Joe Murphy, were seeded fourth out of four teams. But in an upset, they managed to defeat the first-place Angels in the championship game, by a score of 8-5.
It wasn’t just a player or two that won them the series; it was a true team effort, and everyone had shining moments.
Brandan Murphy, the starting pitcher, struck out four and gave the team’s offense the chance to shine.
Anthony Williams (who pitched earlier in the playoffs) came up big with two plays at third base, as well as two runs batted in.
Logan Lounsbury, who also pitched well earlier in the series, drove in a clutch run.
Dan Edwards, the league leader in home runs, provided a spark for the team by stealing home plate – a rare play at any level.
Victoria Connolly and Gavin Guthro provided strong defense, giving important support to the team’s pitching.
Dennis Vivolo also contributed on defense, making an incredible catch in left field.
Nathan Williams drove in a run, a feat he accomplished often during the season. Michael Frazier came up clutch all season, recording many timely hits to help get the team to this point.
And Charlie Bauer, strong in the playoffs, recorded the last outs, sealing the deal on the championship.
