On the Campaign Trail: Ferrino Announces for Town Council Precinct 1

Community volunteer, town activist and life-long Winthrop resident Richard H. Ferrino has submitted nomination papers for the position of Winthrop Town Councilor for Precinct One. He is currently finishing the term of Michael McDuffee whose sudden passing was a staggering loss.

Richard’s contributions to the community are, literally, too numerous to completely list. His service has always been that of a quiet, generous worker. He may be best know for this partial record of his service: Commissioner, Winthrop Historic Commission; Edward B. Newton School Study Committee; Former Chair, Winthrop Housing Authority; Former Chair,Winthrop Historic District Study Committee; Past Commissioner, Winthrop Parks and Recreation Commission; Member, Winthrop Memorial Committee; Dalrymple School Study Committee; Winthrop Capital Improvement Committee; Winthrop Democratic Town Committee; Winthrop Town Meeting Member (21 years); Board Member, Freedoms Foundation, Bay State Chapter; Board Member, Friends of Boston Harbor Islands Member, National Association of Eagle Scouts.

Richard’s deep experience with town departments and local organizations make him eminently qualified to serve as Town Councilor.

“The direction of our town’s future is my utmost concern, we need to look beyond fleeting,monetary growth and focus on what is going to affect our community’s quality of life in the long view. I want to assure future generations the same charm, quaintness, care and concern many of us were fortunate enough to experience. That is why I’ve been involved for most of my life and why I choose to stay involved.”

A graduate of the University of Lowell with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Richard currently serves as Assistant Chief Probation Officer of the Massachusetts Trial Court, Salem District Court. His father, the Honorable Joseph J Ferrino, and several of his siblings still live in Winthrop. He and his wife Rhonda have two adult sons, Richard and Michael and live in precinct one.
