RMV outage today through Monday

On Thursday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m., all Massachusetts RMV services will be taken offline, with the exception of law enforcement functions.  This outage is to allow the RMV to perform the first portion of a computer system upgrade.  As a result, all RMV functions including those at RMV and AAA offices, online transactions, and vehicle inspections will be unavailable from 7:00 p.m. on March 22, until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26.

This RMV system outage will have the following effects on transactions completed by the Town of Winthrop:

Any motorist paying a parking ticket or excise bill that has caused them to be marked as “non-renewable” at the RMV will be unable to have the mark cleared after the close of business on Thursday.  Payments may still be made online even during the outage, and the clears will be queued and performed on Monday.

Online parking permit applications will be delayed.  Any resident applying after Thursday afternoon may still submit their application, however, it will not be processed until Monday when the required RMV checks can be performed.

Residents are urged to plan accordingly and take care of any business they can prior to the scheduled outage.  This outage should not impact over-the-counter transactions, as the down-time is taking place while Town Hall is closed.
