Interim Superintendent of Schools Lisa Howard is in the midst of organizing planned budget meetings with the school principals, and changing it up from how it has been done in the past. Howard is planning on conducting five, two-hour sessions with each principal to discuss enrollment, supplies, curriculum and school improvement plans.
Following the individual meetings, Howard and the principals will come together as a group, and work together to assess the needs of the district. The final portion of the new and improved budget planning will consist of presenting the findings to the community to ensure everyone is educated on the financial future.
Committee seeks members
The Wellness Committee is on the hunt for two interested parent representatives. Members meet less than once a month to discuss how the wellness policy is being integrated into the district. The role of the committee is to ensure that the Smart Snacks in School regulation tools are applied to the food sold at the school during the school day. This regulation has been implemented by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Food and Nutrition Service as a way to provide healthier food in schools.
If you are interested in becoming a parent representative for the Wellness Committee, please contact School Committee Chair, Dawn Sullivan at: dsullivan@winthrop.k12.ma.us
