The School Committee will likely vote to fill the position of interim superintendent of schools at its meeting Monday and this is certainly one of the most important decisions that a local school board can make. The interim superintendent will be in charge of the entire school system when Supt. of Schools John Macero leaves his position next month and there is plenty of momentum to carry on from John’s successful reign as the schools’ leader.
The interim superintendent has the benefit of having a beautiful, new middle/high school and that’s a great launching point. Also with Miller Field being rebuilt and the continued support of a superb organization such as the Viking Pride Foundation, the Winthrop athletic program under AD Matt Serino looks to be reclaiming its spot as one of the top programs in the Northeastern Conference.
