Congratulations,Anthony Fucillo

It’s only a matter of time before Anthony Fucillo is selected for induction into the Winthrop High School Hall of Fame. Anthony was a star quarterback and linebacker for the football team, an excellent varsity hockey player, and a baseball player who showed his versatility as a shortstop for the Viking diamondmen.

Anthony went on to play quarterback at Colgate before transferring to Tufts University where he reunited with Matt Murray, another superb all-around athlete and a star of the 2006 Super Bowl champion WHS football team.

Anthony entered the field of coaching and after a successful stint at Amherst College, he was recently named an assistant coach at Harvard University where he joins the staff of legendary head coach Tim Murphy, the most successful football coach in the annals of modern Harvard grid history.

Well, it goes without saying that Anthony learned from the very best — his father, Hall of Fame coach Tony Fucillo; his uncle, former Springfield standout Rich Fucillo; and not to mention his cousin, Curry College athletic director Vinnie Eruzione.

The name Fucillo and the profession of football coaching are a perfect match. Anthony’s father is coaching in the Tufts program and now young Anthony will be on the staff at nearby Harvard, the world’s most prestigious college.

We congratulate Anthony on his new position and we wish Harvard football well, especially in The Game against that school in New Haven this year.
