John Votta

Loved animals, especially horses; long time Angell Memorial Hospital technician

John F. Votta, born August 23, 1943, a resident of Winthrop, formerly of Orient Heights East Boston, passed away on January 15. He was 73 years old.

John loved animals, especially horses, and spent

much of his youth and young adulthood riding and caring for them. Some of his fondest memories were of times he spent long-distance horseback riding. John’s love of animals extended to his work. He was a technician at Angell Animal Medical Center for more than 40 years. John spent many hours at the gym. He loved to work out. He also enjoyed fishing and being on the open water. John will be sincerely missed by his family and friends.

John was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor C. Votta, and his father, Edmond Votta.

He was the brother of the late Edmond R. Votta and uncle of Joseph Votta, Kimmarie Votta and Karla Guarino and great uncle to Johnathan and Melissa Votta and Dana Flanigan.

Of Winthrop

David A. Smith of Winthrop passed away suddenly at the age of 30 on January 10.

Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of Evalie G. (VanWart) Gray and her husband, John of Winthrop and Richard K. Smith of Georgia; dear brother of Kevin R. Smith and his wife, Suzanne of Berlin, NH and Michael A. Smith of Winthrop; loving uncle of Evalie J. Smith; beloved grandson of the late Harry D. and Patricia J. VanWart and the

late Elliot and Florence Smith; adored nephew of David H. VanWart of Winthrop, Richard VanWart of Leicester, Karen Boyken of Winthrop, Elliott Smith of Winthrop, Stephen Smith of New York and the late Robert VanWart of Winthrop, Alan Smith of Revere,

Patti (Smith) Meldrum of Winthrop and Deborah Smith of Winthrop. He is also survived by many cousins. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, Winthrop.  Cremation was private.
