New School Opening Ceremony

There will be a lot of happy faces at the grand opening ceremony tonight (Thursday) for the new Winthrop Middle/High School. The new school is a triumph for the entire community who came together to make this project a reality. Now the town of Winthrop has a school that everyone can be proud of and point to as part of the great resurgence we have enjoyed under the tremendous leadership of Town Manager James McKenna.

We offer the words of retired teacher Mike Sullivan of Winthrop, the father of Teachers’ Union President Adam Sullivan, who called the new Winthrop High building, “spectacular, one of the most beautiful, state-of-art buildings, I’ve ever seen in all my years in education.”

With a brand new athletic complex to come at the site of Miller Field — and, we expect, something new happening at the Wallace B. McLean Tennis Courts in front of the school building — there never has been a more exciting and optimistic outlook for parents and schoolchildren in our town.
