The Viking Pride organization is truly one of our unsung heroes. Years ago the group helped save sports in this town and they continue to support Winthrop athletics, our student-athletes, our teachers, and other groups. The event this past weekend — in which residents were able to tour the new middle/high school for the first time, followed by a celebration at Miller Field — showed how Viking Pride has been a source of generosity and a great example of volunteers coming together to make our town better. The leaders of Viking Pride can take a much-deserved bow for all they have done since their inception more than a decade ago.
With the beautiful new, middle/high school set to open, Winthrop students can expect that Viking Pride will be behind them 100 percent in all their endeavors, not only in sports but in academics, as the tutoring programs sponsored by Viking Pride have demonstrated.
