Mallios Gets the Call at the TD Garden

Vasili Mallios is moving up the ladder quickly in the word of high school basketball officiating.

Mallios earned the coveted assignment of serving as a referee in the Division 3 state semifinal game between Watertown and Cardinal Spellman Tuesday at the TD Garden.

Mallios also refereed the St. Mary’s-Hamilton-Wenham North sectional semifinal before a packed house at St. John’s Prep.

Refereeing assignments in the State Tournament are awarded following an evaluation process by coaches in the various leagues. Mallios has become a highly respected varsity-level referee in a short period of time.

“I think Vasili is one of the promising and up and coming young officials on our board,” said Paul Halloran, past president of IAABO Board 130 in northeastern Massachusetts. “He has a great future and it’s great for him to get this opportunity to referee at the Garden. I’m really happy for him.”
