Holiday Lighting Is Set for Friday

Ring in the season this Friday in Winthrop Center for the 22nd annual Winthrop Chamber of Commerce “Holiday Lighting Festival” from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

A fan-favorite from Faneuil Hall, street performer “Lucky Bob” will bring his bag of tricks to town the day after Thanksgiving.  The Lucky Bob Show is sponsored by The 11 Foundation, the show starts at 4:00 and features a wacky mix of juggling, comedy, and magic.

In addition to stunt comic “Lucky Bob”, there will be lots of great live entertainment on the stage.  The day starts off at 3:00 with Cervizzi’s Martial Arts Academy, followed by the Winthrop Girl Scouts at 3:15 on stage with Frosty, Rudolph and other fun characters, the Winthrop Public Schools Vocal Vikings at 3:30, the Winthrop School of Performing Arts singing at 3:45, Lucky Bob at 4:00, the Winthrop School of Performing Arts dancers at 4:30, John & Lori Wadkins and students at 4:45, the traditional children’s hat contest will be at 5:00 pm with prizes for the most festive, most original, and best use of recycled material, followed by a reading from The Grinch at 5:15 pm.

Have a free photo with Santa Claus in French Square from 3:00 – 4:45, sponsored by Webster First Federal Credit Union, with the photographs taken by Beacon Photography.  There will also be pony rides running from 3:00 – 5:00 in the Center. Making special appearances this year will be Cookie Monster and the Grinch, joining friends Frosty the snowman and Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Lots of tasty treats that day too, we will be serving free hot popcorn and WCAT will be making cotton candy.  Balloon City of Boston will be handing out free balloons and Twister Pieces will be making amazing balloon creations.

The highlight of the day is when Santa Claus arrives on the fire engine, with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts leading the procession, for the tree lighting at 5:30. Then, the raffle drawing for two $250 Winthrop Gift Certificates takes place, where the winner must be present.
