Friday Night Lights: Come out to Cheer Our Viking Football Team

Friday evening night will mark the first home game of the season for the Winthrop High football team, which opened its 2013 campaign with an impressive victory at Saugus last week. There is no question that Miller Field will be the place to be Friday as the Vikings take on traditional rival Swampscott, a team that has become known for its potent spread offense.

Coach Sean Driscoll will no doubt have his team ready to contain the Big Blue’s high-powered offense that scored 39 points last week in a wild 64-39 (that is not a basketball score) loss to St. Mary’s of Lynn.

You know it’s fall when football is in the air and we expect a large crowd to be on hand at Miller Field. The WHS grid team has drawn exceptionally well at its home games, as Winthrop middle and elementary school students seem to flock to the games. We thank their parents for helping their children show their Viking spirit and rooting on the Driscoll Crew.
