A contingent of Winthrop High girls turned in a strong effort in Saturday’s Northeastern Conference Freshman/Sophomore Meet, garnering 68 points, which was good for a fourth place finish among the 12 teams who competed in the meet.
A number of Winthrop girls placed second in their individual events: Alexis Vaccaro in the triple jump with a landing of 32-.5; Carly O’Keefe in the 100 meter high hurdles in 18.6; and Mayomi Meggison in the long jump with a leap of 15-7.5.
Vaccaro also earned a ribbon for a sixth place effort in the 200 meter dash in 29.0, while Meggison also took a fifth in the 100 meter dash in 14.0.
Other point scorers for Winthrop were: Gina Guiliano with a fifth place effort of 30-6.75 in the triple jump; Julia Wallace with a third in the high jump with a leap of 4-8; Felicia Jones with a fifth in the long jump with a landing of 14-8.5; Amy Sena with a third in the 400 meter low hurdles in 72.4; Alyssa Mackey with a third in the 400 meter dash in 64.3; and Jordan Griffiths with a fourth in the 800 in 2:40.1.
The 4 x100 quartet of Vaccaro, the Joneses, and Meggison took third place and the 4 X 400 foursome of Mackey, Griffiths, Erin O’Leary, and Guiliano came in fifth place.
Also competing in the 4 x 800 were Jessica Dowson, Michaela McCarthy, Wallace, and Maria, who took third place honors.
