Touchback – Coach Fucillo returns to coaching

We knew Tony Fucillo couldn’t stay away from the football sidelines for long. Like Liberace and piano playing and Steven Spielberg and movie making, Fucillo and football coaching are synonymous with excellence.

We congratulate Tony, our former Winthrop High football coach who left the Viking program following an undefeated Super Bowl championship season (and how’s that for leaving on a high note), on his appointment as the receivers’ coach for the Tufts University football team.

One of the great things about Fucillo’s return to football is that he will get to coach his son, Anthony, who is the starting quarterback for Tufts, and Matt Murray, a starting linebacker and another former Viking All-Scholastic player who was a star on the 2006 team that won the Super Bowl.

We know Winthrop football fans will be keeping close tabs on the Tufts team come September. Our guess is that the Jumbos will have the best passing game in the New England Small School Athletic Conference (NESCAC) this season.
