The good news continued for Winthrop Harbormaster Charles “Chucky” Famolare this week, after his peers in the Massachusetts Harbormaster’s Association elected him to serve as president of the organization for the coming year.

“I want to publicly congratulate Chuck Famolare on his election as president of the Massachusetts Harbormaster’s Association,” said Acting Town Manager Larry Holmes. “He does a great job for the town of Winthrop, and he will make a fine statewide president.”

The past few months had been a somewhat trying time for the popular and affable Famolare, who was falsely accused of misusing his position for his own gain late last year.

The election and recognition by his peers comes less than one month after Famolare was reinstated as the town’s harbormaster, following an internal investigation into the alleged improprieties, which began in late December by Town Manager Rick White, who has since departed.

Following the investigation, Holmes declared in early March that Famolare, “at no time did anything that could be considered improper,” when he announced his decision to reinstate the harbormaster.

Famolare couldn’t be reached for comment about his election prior to deadline, but he was gratified and exultant when he was reinstated in early March.

“I am very happy have been reinstated to the position of harbormaster for the town of Winthrop,” he said at the time. “The past few months have been difficult for my family, and I want to thank them for their support during that time.”
