How Will MBTA 3A Law Impact Winthrop?

Special to the Transcript

The Winthrop Republican Town Committee  invite residents to join us for a crucial and informative community forum on “Understanding MBTA 3A” at the Winthrop Senior Center on Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. This event, sponsored by the Winthrop Transcript and the WRTC, aims to shed light on the significant implications of MBTA 3A for our town.

MBTA 3A Article is now law for Winthrop, and its ramifications will be profound. With a mandate for 890 new multi-family units, the law’s “as of right” provision overrides local zoning laws, sparking controversy and concern within our community. It is essential that all residents understand the impact of this legislation and have the opportunity to weigh its effects on our town.

We are honored to have Representative Jeff Turco and Council President Jim Letterie confirmed to speak at the event, providing insights into MBTA 3A and Winthrop’s stance on compliance. While efforts are underway to secure Senator Lydia Edwards’ participation, rest assured that we are committed to ensuring comprehensive community engagement on this issue. Senator Edwards office claims that the Senator will have a MBTA 3A meeting later in April. However, no date has been set for such a meeting.

The forum will include presentations followed by a Q&A session, offering attendees the chance to voice their concerns and seek clarity on MBTA 3A. The event will be filmed by WCAT and made available for viewing on YouTube.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated elected officials for their commitment to fostering dialogue and transparency within our community.

For further details, please visit our Facebook page “Winthrop Republican Town Committee” or email us at WRTC@gmail.com. Your participation and engagement are vital as we navigate the impact of MBTA 3A on Winthrop’s future.
