A Community Fair to benefit Mylestones, The Myles P. Vercruysse Memorial Fund, was held on November 4 in the old Winthrop Middle School gymnasium, where crafters, small businesses, and community programs were displayed.
The Myles P. Vercruysse Memorial Fund was founded by Taza and Erin Vercruysse in memory of their late son who was born three months premature in 2021. The foundation presented its first $5,000 grant in September to one of her son’s doctors for research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
“He fought so hard, but his little lungs weren’t ready. We lost him at 18 days,” explained Erin Vercruysse. “He had so much strength that we wanted to continue to honor him. We established this fund to raise and donate money to research in this area. We also give back to the NICU [neonatal intensive care unit] parents. It’s important to us.”
It took many hours of planning and lots of help from family and friends to bring this event to fruition, and the Vercruysse family would like to thank all that stopped by, donated in any way, making the event a success and provide much need funds to continue research in premature births in the name of Myles P. Vercruysse.
