The 10th Annual “Uplift Yourself With Laughter” Comedy Night, Hosted By for Those Who Can-For Those in Need

Story by Al Terminiello Jr.

The 10th annual fundraiser for the For Those Who Can for Those in Need at Giggles in Saugus was a huge success in all ways. The sellout crowd of over 150 enjoyed all you can eat pizza and all you can take laughs, from the area’s top comics in the business. Master of Ceremonies Johnny Pizzi led the crew of comedians to the stage, with his usual wit and entertaining personality. A special guest appearance by “the King” Steve Sweeney was a treat, ending the show with headliner Artie Januario.

The generosity of the crowd was exceptional, besides the price of the ticket, the many raffle donations, most of all those in attendance brought bags of personal items to be donated to those in need, all going to CAPIC’s emergency services.

Special recognition was paid to a champion of those in need, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bob DeLeo. DeLeo has done more for the good of the Commonwealth in his years of politics, than can be accounted for in a small article. Always willing to listen, and finding a way to help, instead of walking away was Bob’s way of politics, practiced by very few.

Founder & President of For Those Who Can-For Those in Need, Judie Van Kooiman addressed the capacity crowd, thanking them for their generosity, but more for their time, which has no price tag. The event continues to grow every year, meaning it’s helping more and more people every year, and that says a lot for those who donated their time and energy to make the world a better place.
