Winthrop Girl Scouts Clean Up for Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day on Saturday April 22, the Girl Scouts of Winthrop’s Brownie Troop 70227 and Junior Troop 77538 teamed up to pull over 16 bags of trash from Belle Isle Marsh along Morton Street at and around the boardwalk and Ecology Park.
The scouts look forward to joining forces again to serve our community and welcome your ideas for how they can be helpful! Email troop70227@gmail.com. Troop leaders are Julia Wallerce and Nadia Munson.
The girls extracted an enormous amount of plastic bottle caps, alcohol nips bottles and lighters- as well as an old computer- and discussed ways to prevent these environmentally damaging items from entering our waterways, such as anti-littering education, secure trash and recycling collection, and banning the sale of certain products.
