Winthrop Youth Cheerleaders Take Home First Place in Regional Competition

Special to the Transcript

On November 5, 2022 the Winthrop Viking Youth Cheerleaders competed in the New England Dance and Cheer Competition held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA. This competition is one of the largest on the East Coast with over 3,500 cheer and dance athletes competing and this year over 122 cheer teams. 4 Winthrop teams in the youth cheer program competed. Our 1st/2nd grade team AND our 3rd/4th grade team both came home with 1st place in their divisions! Our 5th/6th grade team got 4th place and our 7th/8th grade team got 2nd place.  All athletes have worked incredibly hard for the last 3 months and all their dedication and work paid off. We are very proud of all of them. This competition marked the end of our cheer season. We would like to recognize all of our game day cheerleaders for their commitment to Winthrop Viking Youth Cheer, congratulations and we will see you next year. The Winthrop Viking Youth Cheer Board would like to give a special thanks to Dan Abbott and the members of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club. Dan and the members not only donated their space but helped move mats, let us hold banquets and lended a hand whenever possible. We would also like to give thanks to The United Methodist First Church of Winthrop for donating their hall for our practice time.  It is the generosity of these Winthrop business and people that made it a great experience for our young athletes. Winthrop Viking Youth Cheer would also like to give a special mention to our 8th grade athletes moving on after this season. Briana Rizzotto, Ellla Giacalone, Giuliana Martin, Juliet Bettano, Kylie McFarland, Makayla Herdt, Scarlet Bomarsi, Stefani Sernavsky, Sydney Symmes, and Sofia Gonzalez. Our organization has enjoyed every moment  spent with these amazing girls and wish them all the best going forward. We know they will all do great things in the future. You will be missed.
