Celtics, Mass. Lotto Honor Winthrop’s Brendan Edward as ‘Hero among Us’

Massachusetts State Lottery and the Boston Celtics Honored Winthrop resident Brendan Edward as a Hero Among Us for his creative and playful fundraising efforts for children in need during the holiday season at the Boston Celtics’ game against the Golden State Warriors on December 17th, 2021. For the past five years, Brendan Edward, an Air Force medic and firefighter with the Natick Fire Department, has raised funds for Boston Children’s Hospital. In 2021, Edward took his fundraising efforts to the streets, dressing an elf and starting playful pillow fights with Boston locals and tourists alike in an effort to incentivize them to donate to the hospital. Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, The Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
