CASA Receives Grant for Youthworks

CASA (Community Action for Safe Alternatives) recently received funding from the Afterschool and Out-of-School Time (ASOST) Quality Enhancements Fund to support the Winthrop Youthworks Program. The additional resources will be used to enhance the Job Readiness Program for Winthrop High School students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year (must be 16-years-old).

Thanks to the funds, CASA was able to hire Jen Reth to take on the role of Youthworks Director. Reth will provide Soft Skills Job Readiness Training for students through Junior Achievement, a nationally known research-based curriculum. As part of the program, each student will receive CPR and First Aid Training certification, individual support with their career readiness plan, and an opportunity to job shadow at a local business. The program will be active every semester of the school year as well as in the summer to accommodate all students interested in participating. “We have had amazing support from Winthrop Public Schools (WPS) and the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce,” Reth said. “CASA’s Executive Director, Leighann Eruzione and Superintendent of WPS, Lisa Howard
