Letters to the Editor

Thank You Speaker DeLeo

Dear Editor,

I really enjoyed reading Speaker Bob DeLeo’s recent farewell delivery that the “Winthrop Sun Transcript” reprinted in its 12-30-20 issue.  I enjoyed reading about the Speaker’s and the House of Representatives’ accomplishments, under Bob’s leadership these past 12 years.

I read about  the nation-leading gun safety and health care cost reform laws and those legislative leaders who helped bring them to fruition.  I marveled at the legislation undertaken in areas of education, economic development, early childhood education, reproductive rights, criminal justice, protections for transgender individuals, and sound budgeting.  Just to name a few.

I was most impressed, however, by Bob DeLeo’s advice to other legislators when they try to assess the distinct needs of their communities. “Go humbly, and listen….You will learn more than you could imagine.”  I guess that’s what I’ll remember most about my state representative Bob DeLeo.  He and his staff were always there to listen.  If there was a problem you just couldn’t work out on your own, “Call Bobby DeLeo’s office.”  You knew, he or his staff would get back to you.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, for 30 years plus of public service to the residents of Winthrop.  Best wishes in your future endeavors.

Another Successful Santa Ride

Dear Editor,

I would once again like to thank everyone for another successful trip through Winthrop. I would first like to thank Nick Rosa for designing and building our new sleigh. I think everyone would agree that it looked spectacular. Of course none of it would be possible without the hard work and financial backing of The Winthrop Firefighters Local 1070. So many of those guys, including retired Firefighter Dennis Boudrow, donate their time and skills to make this event the great tradition and spectacle that it is. I would also like to thank The Winthrop Fire Dept., The Winthrop Police Dept., The Winthrop DPW, and anyone else that I may have left out, for helping to make it such a special night. Of course once again, I would like to thank Mrs. Clause and her elves for their help and understanding that I have to work another Christmas Eve. In closing I would like to praise the good people of Winthrop and their guests for their incredible energy and support. I think it’s safe to say that we all really needed this event this year.

Have a Happy, Safe, and Healthy New Year.

See you next year. Santa.
