Police Blotter 08-06-2020

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded for the period of July 20-27:

Monday, July 20

1113: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the area of Metcalf Square for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a one-way violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1130: An officer provided assistance while a MV which had lost a tire at Paine and Main Sts. awaited to be towed.

1135: Officers called the parties regarding the ongoing issue of noise complaints between neighbors at 900 Governor’s Park.

1244: A resident reported that his MV appeared to have been shot with a BB gun. 

1359: An officer responded to a report of a dog swimming in the water at Halford Beach without a leash. The officer informed the owner of the town by-laws.

1424: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Shore Drive and Mermaid Ave. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1716: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the area of the town landing for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of displaying blue lights. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1726: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV that was parked in a crosswalk in the area of Metcalf Square.

1944: An officer dispersed a group of six vehicles that were parked on Grandview Ave.

2131: An officer dispersed a group of nine vehicles that were parked on the wrong side of the street on Grandview Ave.

Tuesday, July 21

10:31: An officer responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving two vehicles at Read and Main Sts. One MV was towed.

1704: An officer dispersed three youths from the gazebo on Morton St. and advised them that they no longer can hang out there.

1738: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked in a No Parking zone in the 900 block of Shirley St.

1740: A MV struck and damaged a light post in the 200 block of Winthrop St. The DPW was notified.

2041: Officers responded to a dispute between neighbors on South Ave. and advised the calling party that this is a civil matter.

2056: An officer directed the owner of a MV parked on the wrong side of the street at Triton Ave. and Shirley St. to move the MV.

Wednesday, July 22

0015: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the area of the 400 block of Shirley St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0952: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the 200 block of Washington Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of operating with an expired registration. The officer issued a citation to the operator and the MV was towed.

1245: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the area of the 100 block of Shirley St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding. The officer issued a citation with a written warning to the operator.

1312: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Harvard and Revere Sts. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1408: A resident came into the station to report a case of identity theft. The officer will file a report.

1549: A clerk at the CVS called an officer to report that a female senior citizen was seeking to purchase thousands of dollars worth of gift cards and the clerk felt it might be a scam. The officer who responded determined that it was a scam after speaking both to the clerk and the potential victim and thwarted the scheme.

1730: An officer stopped a person operating a dirt bike in the 100 block of Main St. and advised the operator of the laws regarding the proper operation of an off-road vehicle.

Thursday, July 23

0550: Officers directed a person who was panhandling from passing motor vehicles at Delby’s Corner to cease doing so.

0909: A DPW employee reported finding hypodermic syringes in the area of Kennedy Rd. An officer retrieved them for disposal at the station.

1050: A Parks and Rec. employee found a hypodermic syringe with liquid still in it at Coughlin Park. An officer retrieved the needle and brought it back to the station for disposal.

1357: A Perkins St. resident reported that the siding on his house had been damaged by someone using a slingshot. The resident said that a neighbor also had similar damage.

1804: A boat owner reported that his boat was struck and damaged at the dock at Atlantis Marina. The Harbormaster also responded and took a report.

1840: An officer assisted the parties with the exchange of papers at a minor motor vehicle accident (MVA) on Crest Ave.

2312: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Winthrop and Main Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a window tint violation. The operator also did not have his license in his possession. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2342: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Walden Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of failing to stay in marked lanes. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2351: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Crest Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of using a hand-held device while operating the MV. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Friday, July 24

0009: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the area of the 100 block of Washington Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0945: An officer directed a Grovers Ave. homeowner to remove the doors from a refrigerator that was on the property owner’s lawn.

1333: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Cutler St. and Veterans Rd. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1347: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) in the 200 block of Shirley St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1405: An officer responded to a report of tagging (graffiti) on the beach stairs at the Highlands and took photographs.

1408: A resident reported that the HR department at her work had informed her that her identity had been used to file a false unemployment claim. The officer will file a report.

1425: An officer assisted the parties with the exchange of paperwork at a minor MVA in Metcalf Square.

1633: A resident reported finding a hypodermic syringe on Yirrell Beach. An officer retrieved the needle and brought it back to the station for proper disposal.

2123: An officer responded to a MVA in the 900 block of Shirley St. in which a vehicle struck a dog and the dog bit a person. The person who was bit by the dog said she will seek medical attention on her own.

Saturday, July 25

0050: An officer moved along three persons in a MV at Halford Beach.

0903: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Pleasant St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of using a hand-held device, a cell phone, while operating the MV. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0915: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of failing to stop for a red light. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1226: Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck on the arm by an MBTA bus in the 500 block of Shirley St. The injured person refused medical attention. MBTA police will file a report.

2049: An officer dispersed a group of nine vehicles that were parked on the wrong side of the road on Grandview Ave.

2224: An officer dispersed a group of four vehicles that were parked on the wrong side of the road on Grandview Ave.

Sunday, July 26

0026: A caller reported that his MV had been vandalized while parked at a local marina. An officer will investigate and look at possible video footage.

0301: A River Rd. resident reported that a male party in a hoodie had attempted to break into her MV and ripped off the rear windshield wiper. Officers located the suspect, taking him home and advising his parents of the situation.

0752: A Winthrop St. resident reported that his MV had been broken into via a smashed rear window. The officer will file a report and seek video footage from a neighbor’s cameras.

0754: An officer directed persons playing music loudly in the 700 block of Winthrop St. to turn down the volume.

1040: A caller reported that his MV had been struck by a hit-and-run operator who took off the driver’s side mirror and damaged the driver’s side door while the MV was parked on Winthrop St. near the library.

1049: An elderly male party on a bicycle was struck and injured by a MV at the floodgates on Shore Drive. The victim was transported to Tufts Medical. The matter will be handled by the State Police.

1106: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for the civil motor vehicle infractions (CMVI) of a marked lanes violation and a passing violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1412: A resident reported a case of identity theft.

1503: An officer issued parking tickets to four vehicles on Townsend St. that did not have resident parking stickers
